This game isn?t called Double Dash for nothing, there?s now two players in each kart. You can use this in two ways, you can have a 2player game with player 1 and 2 in the same kart or 1player with you controlling both. The back player holds the weapons and the front drives. In multiplayer mode player1 can drive and you have to trust player2 to use the weapons at the correct time. With a simple tap of a button yo can swap positions so you can have the best driver for each course. At first this is weird, the kart handles different and you feel very fragile without being in control of the weapons. But after some practice this becomes great fun, you?ll prefer playing it like this rather than against each other. The tournament mode is the heart of MK once again, with the 50, 100, and 150cc modes returning. 50 and 100cc wont take long for you to complete but 150cc is considerably harder than the N64 versions. then theres the star cup where you have to play all 16 courses as one big tournament on all difficulties and then you get mirror mode. Again theres 16 courses, which doesn?t sound like much but this is Mario Kart and each has its own unique theme thats tied to a character and they?re quite hard to master. My personal favorite is Bowsers castle, quite simalar to MK64 but alot more fun. Time Trials is also a life consuming mode, especially if you?ve got someone to challenge your times.
The Graphics -
Beautiful. And what else do you expect? this is Nintendo. The level of detail is highest ive ever seen in a Nintendo game, the levels are quite huge in the first place and the backdrops are amazing. New to this game is a replay mode, not a simple one like the days of old though, a proper TV stlye replay.
The Lifespan -
Mario Kart is a multiplayer game really, you can have fun in Single player for a week or two but if you have a freind to play it with theres months of gameplay here. Nothing beats your mate being in 1st and you hit him with a missile on the line on the last lap and overtake him. and everytime you play somthing amazing like that happens, if you get bored of this you?re mad.
Overall -
This is certainlty Gamecubes best game bar none. forget realistic handling and looks this game is made for one thing only - Fun! If you have two joypads and a mate this game will suck you in wheter you like it or not. Knock the score down 5% if you?re a single player1
