Luigi?s Masion
The story

Mario and Luigi get invited to a masion high up on the hills which is known for strange events. When Luigi gets there he opens the door and calls out Mario?s name but gets no reply. He wanders about still calling out Mario?s name when he bumps into a ghost, luckily you bump into a man who equiped, with what looks like, a vacum cleaner. He sucks the ghost up and invites you down to his lab. Here he tells you that Mario arived shortly before you and that the boo?s had escaped from the paintings and had turned Mario in to a piece of art. He gives you the vacum cleaner and a Game Boy Horror then sends you out into the masion to turn Mario from a painting back to life.

The Gameplay

Unlike his brothers games this is far from a platformer game. The basis is that of Silent Hill or Resident Evil -survival horror. Armed only with the vacum cleaner ( although a very special vacum cleaner ) and a flash light you must suck up all the Boo?s to turn them back into pictures. To do this you must first shine the flashlight at them to dazzle them then suck them up. This isn?t as easy as it sounds though, each ghost has a power bar out of 100. The lower the number the easier it is to suck. Ghosts with their power bar filled will take longer to suck up and you?ll have to fight it when it tries to get away ( by wiggling the anolouge sticks ). Once you suck up all the ghosts in each room the lights turn on, at this point the Boo?s come in to play. Boo?s are attracted to lights so to catch all 50 you must clear all rooms of ghosts. It does get a bit more complicated when the Water, Fire, and Ice add-ons come into play. There are some downsides, namely the length of the game ( see Lifespan ) and controls. Once you get the hang of the controls they?re the best thing in the world, until that time it?s a royal pain in the ass. Some people may find this game repititive aswell, you walk in room and suck up all the ghosts then the lights turn on and you catch the Boo?s. There is a bit more to the game than that but that is the basis of everything you do.

The Graphics

The looks can?t really be faulted. In a game where you?re in the dark all the time you really need good shadow effects and this game has them. Lighting outside the window lights up the night sky and throws what must be the best looking shadow in a game ever. The Fire effects are greatly satisfying, and gives Halo
a run for its money.

The Lifespan -

This is where the main complaint is. Even though the game takes a while to get the hang of you can still complete this in 6 - 8 hours. And unless you don?t get all 50 Boo?s the first time round there isn?t much replay value. Nntendo need to start adding different difficulty levels to their games.

Overall -

Okay, so Luigis game isn?t up to the standards of his brothers, But how many games are?? This is a great take on the survival horror genre and is a very entertaining game. I would suggest you look in your local bargain bin because £40 for 8hrs of gameplay is quite steep. Anyone who likes Mario will love this.
