Moulin Rouge

To cut a long story short, this film is absolutely amazing. Although i have to admit, when i first sat down to watch it, i didn?t have very high expectations for it seen as i?m not a musicals person. The only musical i?ve ever seen and liked was Grease, and well to me that was a classic and i didnt think anything could ever beat it. But i was wrong. Moulin Rouge exceeded all of my expectations, which admittedly weren?t that high, but nevertheless it is now one of my favourite films of all time.

Plot Details

Well before i go on, this is what the film is about. In 1900 Paris, a penniless writer Christian (Ewan McGregor) falls in love with the beautiful Courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman) the star attraction of the seedy nightclub, the Moulin Rouge. But also vying for Satine?s attentions is the Duke, a shady character who in return for funding the club?s latest venture, wants exclusive access to Satine herself. And he wont be happy if he finds out about her relationship with Christian...

Baz Luhrman?s brilliant directing is just one of the aspects that make this film work. The dance scenes and songs are amazing and all of the cast members, especially Jim Broadbent, Nicole Kidman and Ewan NcGregor are extremely talented, which make this film a definite must see.

Apart from the film itself, the 2 dvd set also boasts an impressive extra 6 hours of bonus footage, which is bound to keep anyone interested for hours on end. The bonus footage includes extended dance scenes, music videos, Making of documentaries and cast interviews among many other things which make this one of the essential dvds to buy this summer - and only for £20.99, which may actually seem a lot, but it?ll be worth it.

I?d give the film itself an 8 or 9/10 and the extra footage 10/10 for sheer entertainment factor and value for money. Enjoy!
