This game has possibly the best control system in a game ever. In earlier golf games you took shots by timing the pressing of a button like in a rythem game. But in Tiger Woods 2004 the analouge sticks come into play. By using the the pressure control system EA have made a greatly innovative but at the same time simple change to the genre. EA have also tweaked the ball control to perfection. To beat the best you must learn how to control the ball in mid air. You do this by holding R2 and holding back on the analouge stick in the direction you want the ball to go. you can put left or right hand side on, top spin or dead ball. All of which are usefull for those shots that went a bit wrong. Putting is the most difficult part of the game, at first it seems impossible to get the ball in the hole. But after you learn what the caddy tips mean and put abit of practice in you should be able to putt from 30yrds+. The course design is alot more balanced this time round. Last years edition seemed to have either too much or too little Hazards but now its alot better. The game modes are greater in numbers aswell including - Tournaments, Tigers challenge, Scenerio mode and, if you have broadband, various online modes. There is also a new Pro-shop, where you can spend your hard earned cash on items such as new clubs, balls, shoes, hats, and acessories for your golfer. Most major brands are there, Nike, Adidas, Talyormade, Cleveland, Maxfli, Ping and all the others.
Graphics -
Anyone with eyes can the see that the courses are beautifully crafted and detailed. And they have to be when you?re trying to drive the ball 300yrds, avoid the bunker and hit the fairway. As you play the course comes alive, with animals, skydivers and various other things happening in the backround. The players and motion of the swings are perfect with the ball physics not far behind.
Lifespan -
To get your stats all the way up you must beat the best of the best and this will take time and practice, and even when you do beat all of them you have all of the multipalyer modes which are great fun.
Overall -
The best sports game to hit a console in a long time. Even people who hate Golf in real life will love this game. It?s tweaked to perfection and really can?t get much better, the challenge for EA now is to not start churning out shameless updates year after year like they did with FIFA.
